A lot of women are prone to being a work martyr. The low self-esteem cycle is often reinforced by the workplace. In that kind of workplace where women feel “privileged” to be, they also feel like they need to hang on with tooth and nail. If workplaces are more inclusive and routinely built up these women’s self-esteem rather than tearing it down, then perhaps women will feel a bit “safer” to speak their mind, set firm boundaries and stop being “work martyr”. This affects these women’s family. The cycle is not healthy for the company or for the person’s life. I’m not saying this is a problem only affecting women. But, I’m just saying that I’ve seen it in more women than I have in men at workplaces. Great article!
