Distance

When I heard that you were
leaving, there seemed to be
a line drawn suddenly.
I’m not allowed to reach you
impromptu.
You are not allowed to be
close.
In truth, distance between
two souls can grow even
when six feet a part.
We can still commiserate
about our days, laugh,
and cry.
May our hands meet in
the middle, our thoughts
mix, our days mesh with
one another.
