Great article. We need more of this. In our society today, math and science skills seems to assume a certain kind of person. Whether it’s a boy or a girl, it’s assumed that person has some kind of special abiilties.
It’s so not true. Failing over and over again was my path down the math lane. Juggling a wall street tech job and taking all 24 credits of college advanced math part time after work and literally crying in my sleep every night was how I got to eventually take my masters in statistics degree.
It’s not inhuman ability but the “hunger” that we need to inspire in our girls/women. In our paternalistic culture, it’s probably 200% more difficult to thrive in tech for women. But, honestly, we have to try. Otherwise, the statistics will just dwindle until there are none. That would be a shame.
Thanks for speaking for the cause!
