Hi Michael, I believe that those platform’s beauty is in authentic engagement from the users. I do feel that the users themselves need to take responsibility in each interaction to their bullies and trolls to defend themselves well enough that the trolls and bullies move on. The alternative if that doesn’t happen, is that the companies (facebook, twitter etc..) will need to institute oversight groups that investigate and police trolls and bullies. This makes the whole system less democratic. So, if we all want the internet to be a free and democratic place, each individual has to take responsibility. If it means that we need to help our friends, then we do. It’s the same as any community in America, if you are in it, you contribute positive things, otherwise, you just won’t make many friends in the community.
