…wasn’t exactly a happy choice to leave in the first place, and maybe that influenced their actions? I would guess that if your parents were excited to move to America, they would have been less opposed to you growing up “American.” But that’s just a guess. I’m curious to hear more about your story.
I do not know why they left. My mother’s family was persecuted. It impacted her entire career as a scientist in China. She is brilliant. This is what they told me that they moved to pursue science freely in America. But instead, they worked as cheap labor in the scientific laboratories of university research. I believe there was bitterness that I empathize ofcourse on their part. Nevertheless it does not excuse how they treated me.
