I Know The Chaos

I know the chaos, a destructive
force that pulls like quicksand
one’s entity down. I’ve been
down in the pit staring at
darkness counting minutes
past.
Lonely is a luxury
when I stare at a son’s
eyes crying for help.
Lonely is a luxury
when I shake a writer’s
hand of misguided truths.
Lonely is a luxury
when our pots of gold
lead us on a stray path.
Lonely is a luxury
when I watch others
alter my truths.
Lonely is only a beast
if we allow ourselves
to be alone. For we
are souls that can
refill our own wells.
I’ve been led down
a path that isn’t my own.
The journey on someone
else’s path is steep
and cavernous.
I’ve stumbled on
the lonely that is not
my own. Now I bury
it in the sand pits,
with my last compassions,
I refill my well.
