That is a very good question. No, the answer is that at this moment AI can not keep track of vibrant creatures that we are. However, pieces of writing can be compared to the whole body of work that’s out there for similarities. There are very good machine learning algorithms that can compare sentiments, similarities, and meanings in one piece of writing versus the other. One of the startling thing is that when you re-write another person’s article, these algorithms will pick it up. Depending on the sophistications of the algorithms, similarities and distances can be scored by comparing two articles. There’s a lot that goes into it but algorithms can now detect “latent spaces” or find hidden patterns that assert similarity in two pieces of writing.
